Designed to meet the needs of the toughest industrial job site conditions, the DeWalt D25500K 1-9/16-inch SDS Max Rotary Hammer's reliable 11.0 Amp motor delivers high output while providing overload protection. An electronic variable speed feature allows the user to control the speed of drilling and chipping, and 7.3 lbs./ft. of impact energy are available for fast drilling and powerful chipping (at 1,330-to-2,660 BPM and 140-to-280 RPM). The included SDS max. tool holder is compatible with most bits, and the hammer's rubber grip helps reduce the level of vibration felt by the user when operating the tool. Also included is a rear handle mount for less bending over when using the tool in down drilling applications. A 360-degree side handle gives users the ability to position the side handle wherever it best suits the application, and a factory clutch helps reduce the tool's reaction to embedded steel when bits lock-up while in operation. I know granit is harder than concrete but I was drilling 1-1/4" holes instead of the 1-9/16" that it is rated for.The first one I recieved- the plastic collar where the depth bar mounts was broken. It works well for the price but it is a little underpowered. I ordered the 1-9/16" Dewalt hammer drill to drill holes in granit. I had to return the whole drill and get a new one. It's a nice hammer drill for the price. That is a weak design. I have drilled about nine 1-1/4" holes 36" deep with it now.
If my 1-1/4" bit would get stuck it wouldn't even have the power to unstick it. I was drilling 1-1/4" holes. I would rate it 1-1/8" instead of 1-9/16" it is currently rated at. That collar should not be plastic. The new one was intact. I have three 1/2" chuck drills, two of them have more torque than this hammer drill.If you have 1-1/8 holes or smaller I would definately recomend this drill. If your holes are larger I would recomend going up to a bigger size.
